It has been six years since the Awakening and peace in Spokane, Washington is still tenuous at best. The vampires and shifters are all vying for control of the city and the humans seem to be the ones suffering the consequences, or so it seems.

Aria Naveed has spent the last two years of her life fighting to make the many wrongs of the world right, but soon finds out that the humans aren’t as weak as they appear and may be a more terrifying foe than any of the other races combined.

When a stranger rolls into town with trouble on his heels, Aria finds herself trapped in the middle of a battle that could cost her more than she has bargained for as a fight for justice turns into an unexpected fight for her life.

I've got a lot of mixed feelings regarding Cursed by Fire. As like most of this book's readers, I couldn't help but compare this novel with Nalini Singh's Psy Changeling series and that of Kate Daniels' (unread), but I wasn't going set it aside, despite the unoriginal concept. I knew for sure, Danielle Annett has got her own set of twists that might separate it from the rest.

The world building was not at all complicated, as this novel is pretty much Urban Fantasy. There are Shifters, Vampires, Humans and Psykers. Aria is a Psyker and to be exact, a Pyro, and it's amusing how she can easily burn something to the ground at the very moment she loses her temper. She's kick-ass and I knew I was going to enjoy reading about her. I love me some kick-ass heroines!

Cursed By Fire is an amusing, quick urban fantasy read. Although it flowed a little bit (okay, maybe more than a little bit) to the cliche side, plus the fact that it had a potential love triangle (which wasn't completely against my liking despite my distaste for love triangles), I still enjoyed the read. It's action packed, fast paced and did I mention a hot wolf shifter partner?

Not a bad read for a debut novel. I'm curious to read the next book, as this one ends with a very intriguing cliffhanger and a couple of loose ends.

*I received this novel courtesy of the author in exchange for an honest review.

  1. I love the Kate Daniels series and have never read the other so that might be a good thing for me. Overall is sounds like this had a pretty solid start for a new series.
    Great review!

  3. I agree it was very fast paced which ended up being my favorite thing about the story. It wasn't that action packed to me, honestly I was a bit disappointed with the action scenes, but atleast I was still able to enjoy the book in some sort of way.

P.S Yo your review did end up being short! When you first told me I was thinking " our " short ya know lol. Good job girl :)

  5. I'm not into self-published authors but I love it when their books are as awesome as they are! Also, even books having a synopsis or plots that are 'unoriginal' but got twits to differentiate it from the others, it is still cool to read. It really depends. Great review!
